I don’t have to tell you that we have reached a turning point for video conferencing. You know it…the whole world knows it. You probably have somewhere between four and eight video calls on any given day. This is the new work reality—and to be honest, we don’t know when or if the pre-Covid, in-office collaboration experience will be returning to “normalcy.” Therefore, at BlueJeans we have been busy making sure that our roadmap and priorities are completely aligned with our customers’ expectations for secure and productive meetings.

In a world where only a portion of your daily meetings require video conferencing, the stakes for secure meetings are high—but not nearly as high as when every meeting you conduct is over video conferencing. With everything from virtual water cooler check-ins to IPO roadshows and acquisition negotiations happening online, meeting protection at all costs has become an essential business priority.

Since the founding of our company, BlueJeans has earned trust by implementing standards-based security protocols throughout our platform and protecting the privacy of our customers. Throughout the past few weeks, we have shared a number of posts that reinforce our commitment to secure video conferencing and best-practices for protecting your meetings.

Today, I am excited to dive a little deeper into three of the new features we announced to help provide additional security for your meetings.

Restricted Meetings
Whether you are in a physical or virtual conference room, you expect that your meeting will only be attended by the individuals that have been invited. Without the proper controls in place, meeting credentials can be shared inadvertently and meeting IDs can be revealed, exposing the meeting to malicious activity.

Our new Restricted Meetings capability mitigates this risk by enforcing meeting join authentication, which means that only invited participants can join a meeting by leveraging a unique one-time passcode that can be authenticated via email confirmation or by logging into a BlueJeans account. Importantly, this feature works for both internal meeting attendees, as well as external attendees who do not have a BlueJeans account. Admins can also enforce a default setting which prevents external participants from joining a meeting altogether and ensuring that video meetings are contained within the “virtual walls” of the organization.

Quick Lock
Sometimes meeting hosts are in back-to-back meetings using their Personal Meeting ID. This can pose an issue when the next meeting’s attendees join before the previous conversation is finished. For this scenario, we have made it incredibly simple to enact the ‘Lock Meeting’ feature by clicking the padlock at the top of the screen. Once triggered, the meeting will be locked, and the next meeting’s attendees will be placed in the waiting room until the meeting is unlocked. This feature will help keep confidential conversations private, while providing a simple one-click experience to keep you moving throughout the day.

Screen Share Controls
It’s no secret that bad actors have been “bombing” video meetings and presenting unsavory content. To mitigate unwanted content sharing, we have developed a ‘Lock Screen Share’ feature that provides meeting moderators with the ability to limit screen sharing to themselves (which may be ideal for teachers), prevent attendees from taking over the screen sharing function independently, and stopping screen share all together. These enhanced controls will be available at the top of screen as part of the Screen Sharing button for ease of use and so that meeting hosts can take immediate action if need arises.

BlueJeans recognizes that our success is directly tied to the trust that we have built with our customers because of our unwavering commitment to security and privacy. We will maintain and advance this core discipline on your behalf to ensure that you can have the utmost confidence in our platform for every meeting on your agenda.
